3.54 gears for Dana 60

Post by F100camperspecial »

Just wondering where would be a good place to pick up a 3.54 gear set for a Dana 60 rear axle? What should a guy look for if he is looking at a used set. If going new, who makes decent gear sets these days? What prices could a guy expect to pay? Thanks! :hmm:

For used try www.car-part.com The last time a bought a new ring and pinion set was mid 80's and I think it was around 200.00 give or take can't even remember the brand but they were for a GM 10 bolt 3:07---
I was just a young hot rod kid with a lift kit on a 4x4 out burnin rubber and whamo lost a couple teeth

Hmm, Six States here in Spokane has a new Dana 60 ring gear and shim set for $247 (that's new). Oh well, just another poor slob with dreams bigger than his wallet. :(

Is it an F-100 60 or an F-250? The F-100 Dana 60s are a bit rare but the F-250 ones are easy to find used in the 3.54

Willybilly3, I have a 1970 F250 rear Dana 60 (3.73) to replace the H2 (nine inch 3.50) axle in my 1972 F100. I managed to buy a complete 3.54 Dana 60 out of a 3/4 ton van today ($50), so hopefully there my ring set! :) :)

The bearing tip you mention sounds like what my buddy did on his Surburban rear end--using an opened up set of bearings. I agree this is alot of work, but the thing is this is a 4x4 F100 with a 3.54 D44 up front. How common was the 3.54 in the D60 rear axle on the 67-72 F250's? Maybe a guy should scope the u-pick yard here for a 3.54 D60? -Thanks-

Not as common on 67-72 as later but many of the 390 automatic equipped F-250s did have them. You can use a whole axle assembly from a 73 and newer by rewelding the spring pads.
