Fixing Dents In Bed

Is it possible to fill the dents in the bed as they are with filler, then cover with some sort of liner? Line X, Herculiner, etc... If this stuff isn't supposed to crack or anything the bondo shouldn't crack or pop up. So will this work?

Actually, I've kinda been wondering the same thing. I don't see why it wouldn't, but good surface prep would be critical here...no shortcuts allowed. And you'd probably want to try to keep the filler thickness to a minimum, so if there were any deep dents, you'd want to tap them out as much as possible first. I'd also think you'd want the higher-quality spray-in liner rather than the inexpensive roll-on liner kits.

From what I've learned lately, I believe you could just do the dent repair like you would any other body panel, then spray the bed with a good etch primer and then coat with the spray-in liner.

It looks like the back of my truck was hit with a giant-sized hail storm. I dont plan on fixing all the dents, and the ones on the very rear sides you can't get to to hammer out. Filler in the bottom rear corners wouldn't be a terrible practice imo.

Yes it can be done!
The Dealership I use to work for did spray in liners (brand line-x)
We fixed dentd wth bondo and you dont have to have it perfect because the liner is thick enough to cover your scratches! We would take tape and cover small drilled holes and spray over it! You dash pad guys will love this! I took a busted up dash pad that looked like crap, I covered it in bondo, then smmothed it out good! They sprayed it and it looked great! I am about to do my 1967 pad that way! I will post pics when its done!

No, what I am talking about is having a vinyle dash (thats all cracked up)
Srayed with bed liner spray and you will never know it was cracked!
I always spread bondo over the busted up pad to smooth things out and then get the local line-x dealer to spray the pad! It gives it a good custom textured look!

Hey good post here. Brought up an interesting fix for those cracked dash pads as well as the dents in or beds. Definitely post pics of the dash pads and let us know.

I saw a segment on that line-x product on "Trucks" and that stuff is indestructable, plus they can spray on a smooth finish. So I'm interested in seeing those pictures when you are done.

Personally, I'd use fiberglass instead of bondo mainly because it would be a lot stronger. The spray-in liner would probably hold it all together, but I'm not sure what would happen if the bondo came loose under the liner. There's even stuff called fiber-strand at NAPA and other stores, that's similar to bondo, but uses fiberglass strands for strength. There's a short and long strand versions.
