Use for 3/4" square tubing?

Post by averagef250 »

I had a slow day today (first time in a LONG time) and really cleaned up the shop. In the process I discovered I still have around 200 feet of 3/4" .083" wall square tubing left over from a huge ornamental gate job I did a year ago. It's outside and starting to rust pretty good now. It's at the point where I should do something with it or scrap it before it turns into a really rusty mess and it's useless. There's also 40' of 1.5" .120 wall tube and some 3/4X1.5" .083 wall. Trying to think of something I could make and use with the stuff or build and sell for a quick buck, but nothing's really coming to mind.

Any ideas?

How about a gate for the garage door. That way, when the door is open no one can walk in. Don't know if you have a shop that the public shows up at or not, but it's an idea.

I would do it too! That's perfect 80sh!t honda exhaust right there!

.083" wall tube is a bit thin for anything real structural like a cart to hold heavy stuff. I built a cart to hold some rotory tables and milling vices out of the 1.5" tube right after the gate job. (I specifically ordered a bit extra extra tubing for that purpose :D )

I'm a friendly guy. If someone pulls up and they don't walk in my shop I wonder what's going on. The doors are only really shut when I'm not there or it's 30 degrees outside.

Stell is so darned expensive these days I'd hate to scrap it for just a couple bucks. I built 4 good size arch top driveway entrance gates for this fancy big shot general contractor out of this stuff. As I recall there was about 1200 pounds of steel and the price at wholesale was around $1700.

About 8 years ago I built my tilt deck car trailer (That's the one your bed was on Greg). Bought 4000 pounds of new steel and 500 or so of diamond plate rem and my total cost was less than $400.

It's A-36 structural. I didn't want my gates to break!
