Yeah just like it says my battery smells like a fart, a bad one, and it is hissing a lot. it is pretty new about 4 months old. any ideas guys and girls?

Sounds like it is getting overcharged.

Check your voltage. Either your regulator or alternator is going out and overcharging.

Yep, overcharging.

What you smell is sulphuric acid (rotten eggs). Don't smoke, the vapors can ignite and cause an explosion. Usually a battery that smells that bad can't be saved and needs to be replaced, after you fix the overcharging problem.

Fix it before you drive it anymore, there's a good chance it will blow if you allow it to continue to overcharge. It will be loud and acid will end up on everything.
I know this, but at least it wasn't my truck. :evil:

yea that happened to my 67 when my dad owned it. Lets put it this way. No matter how much you power wash it. It will still eat your inner fender

yep that is what it was I took it to advanced and they said that I had a dead cell and the alt. would ask the battery if it needed charged and the battery would say yes so it keeped overcharging it till it had to Fart to keep from blowing up. but I have a new one now, cost me 10 cents. gotta love advanced auto.

but now my tranny is stuck in 3rd gear..........grrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Good tip; baking soda/water mix neutralizes sulfuric acid; good idea to rinse away any area of spilled battery acid with this mix, then rinse that with water. Good idea to keep a box of Arm & Hammer and a bottle of water handy in the garage......
