73-79 colum in a 67-72

So here is what I am trying to do, I had a rusted collum in my 72 and I was able to find one from a 77 donor truck.....but of course the wiring is a problem. But using this website plus the manuals for the different years I am trying to make a wiring adaptor, using plugs from the old collum and the donor trucks harness but the 77 has a few extra wires for the hazard lights.......so what my question is has any one else tried this? and if so HELP.

Hang in there, I know it's been done here (remember reading about it.) It was just a matter of connecting the right wires together plus you'll have some extras from the hazards and the lighted PRNDL if it's an auto. Here's something from the tech articles here that might help:

You'll have to adapt to the later style backup/neutral safety switch that's mounted on the tranny.

the great thing about doing this is if you find a collum that is the right year you can swap back and you didn't cut into your harness.

Here are a couple of pix I snapped of the harness that wideguage is making.
He has it just about done but there are 2 or 3 wires that we dont know where they go.

well there is a 4 prong connector but it is for the automatic safety switch. a four speed wouldn't have that. I am thinking that it has something to do with the 73-79 has the hazard switch on the collum but the bumpside has it on the dash. ??

just move your emergencies iether to the column or leave them in the dash. Hmm idea if you have Position/clearance markers on the roof you could always move the flashers to the colum and turn the original switch into an interupt for the Clearance lights and then you could flash Big rigs over and flash to pass.

well I am not going to give up on the jumper harness for the swap but Sharkdance gave me a 70 column so the harness jumper will just have to go on the back burner like everything else that I have.
