Wow, I got it back!

Post by Bama Boy »

I am a tried and true FORD man. 4 months ago my 89 Ford mustang GT was stolen. The local police believed it to be in a thousand little pieces. I gave up on trying to recover it about 2 weeks ago when I got a call from the Sheriff. Ameth addict drug dealer had it in the next county. They said it outran 3 different departments with that kid behind the wheel. I got it home just to find out he destroyed the bell housing, clutch, etc. he also cracked the block. I figure from speed shifting. Well I am rebuilding it, but it is mine!!!! I am so happy to get it back!

How is insurance going to value the damage?

That stinks about the block. I lived in Detroit a few years back and had a (then newer) Dodge Ram stolen out of the parking lot of my building. Cops came right out and said they would probably never find it. It eventually turned up in downtown Detroit stripped down to nothing. I didn't have any sentimental value in it, it WAS a Dodge, so I just let it go.
Bumpless for now...

I am not sure about restitution. The possession of a stolen vehicle charge will probably be low on the list after the firearms and meth charges. We will see. As far as insurance goes I learned a very valuable lesson. I had liability on this car while I was working on it. I should have had full coverage, then I would have been compensated for the damages. Getting it back in parts is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

You won't get much in restitution from our Injustice system. Catch the guy out somewhere and take the costs out of his ass.

Just don't tell anyone I said to do it. :D

Yeah, you'll probably have to file a civil case against him to get any money.

I've been on this rock going around the big bright thing long enough to know how to TCB. :D

On a side note:
I've been on the job long enough to know that thefts are way down on the ladder of important policework now. Drugs are the major cause of thefts, I'd go as far as to say close to 95% of thefts are caused by drugs. When we can make a dent in the drug problem a LOT of other problems will go away by themselves.

True true SmokeyBear, but on the bright side perhaps someone got pics of your 'stang running with three departments behind it. Atleast you could say look, and this was with a tweeker attemting to drive it and I wasn't even done fixin' her up yet.
And know you know what will need upgrading ifin' you're gonna "need" to push it a little.
Seriously though, great to hear you got your 'stang back, um...not in a box.

Not Smokeybear's, it's Bama Boy's stang. And I agree with Smokey' advice. Just make sure you make it count in case you get caught. My father had a 1964 Chevelle stolen only to find it stripped in police impound. A sad day  .
