Post by farmallmta »

Thought you guys might like to see our fleet of bumpsides that work daily just as originally intended... at the 50 year mark.

I have more photos but I'm only able to attach 3 of them. We've had some pretty huge loads on these trucks frequently. All are FE engines, all have manual transmissions.

Two of them are '69s while the brown one is a '72. All three were purchased from their original owners. The ones with the dealer-installed Ford-original hood scoops are 4 spds, the white one having an NP435, while the brown one has a T-18. The '69 without the hood scoop has a T-85N-OD, column shifted. The son of the original owner told us his father had the dealer swap the overdrive 3spd out of his '66 F100 trade-in in place of the the factory 3spd in the '69 prior to delivery. That would make it the only new F250 delivered from the dealer with a 3spd-OD transmission. Only F100s had them as a factory option, probably because of overloading concerns with the F250. Odd, because with the OD locked out, the T-85N is a stronger transmission than the Ford 3spd Toploader. That '69 also has factory AC, as does the '72.

These two photos feature the '69 F250 Camper Special. The one photo shows it pulling a trailer with loaded with 6800lbs of marble tile, the last of 3 round trips of 600 miles each. The truck hauled 21,000 pounds of tile in 3 trips in one week with nary a hiccup. The other photo is the final bag of insulation being delivered into the attic of a house. The truck had temporary sideboards with 45 bales of insulation on it at the start of the job. This photo was the celebration of the last bale being fed into the insulation blower.

Beautiful. Love it.

I hauled 800 pounds of FE engine in the bed of my ‘65 a while back. It has a 240 and lots of rust but never missed a beat. These old trucks like to work. It’s what they were born to do.
