Post by Nocturnal »

hi im looking at doing a conversion to have a 1978 column in my 1970 f250, i want to wire everything to the column including indicators, high / low beam, horn and wire the ignition switch in to the column, not sure what all the wires do, had a look at a couple of diagrams but my multi switch has a

current indicator switch colours are

Floor switch - high low beams colours are

Horn Switch is just one wire - black.

Look up the wiring diagram for both columns and "remap" the wires to the corresponding function and colors.

Simple.

Randy that wiring diagram is no good.
I proved it's fault with my 79' tilt steering install-when I tried to use it and was beating my head against the wall.
I thought that I put my 79' tilt steering column graft to 71' factory harness in my build thread but it is not. Then I remembered I started an entire thread on my tilt steering when I did it, as there was not a reliable thread to go by.
The search engine tells me "can not search at this moment -try again later" when I try to find my tilt steering wiring build / install thread.

But here's my image showing the correct wiring colors-and everything worked on the truck correctly afterwards including emergency flashers which most folks have issues with.
Jim, try to find "basketcase tilt steering" or "tilt steering" under my username as having started the thread-it might help?

Just a note.

Please do not ever use household wire nuts on any vehicle. It's just asking for trouble because they do not withstand vibration.

Get a grip dude. MY columns are on the workbench. IF YOU LOOK AT ANY OF MY WORK YOU'LL SEE THAT EVERY SINGLE WIRE ON THAT TRUCK WAS SILVER SOLDERED AND HEAT SHRINK TUBE WRAPPED!

Oops...looks like I did leave a few "household wire nuts" in the truck-IF...you can wrap your pea brain around what I did here!

FACT REMAINS ponyboy THAT 90% OF THE GUYS, (AND GALS) ON HERE WERE NOT BORN WITH A SILVER SPOON IN THEIR MOUTH AND WILL HAVE TO USE WIRE NUTS AND/OR ELECTRICAL TAPE FOR THEIR CONNECTORS ON OUR OLD TRUCKS.
You never have nothing productive to comment on a thread I've responded to-but are the first to attack-take your butt hurt elsewhere! :x :cuss:

Hey I see this is an old post but did you get your 78 column wired? I just did this and for me wasn't all that easy. I finally got it done and did take notes. If you need any help I can dig them up,
Kenny
