So a Weird thing happened today

Post by t_doody »

So I was driving onto the highway, and on my way to the exit for the other highway my truck makes this god awful noise. Like I didn't have an exhaust pipe. Pulled over to look under the hood and didn't really notice anything but I was all dog ass tired from just getting off work. So I limp it home and I look under the hood again, and looks like a spark just decided it didn't want to be in the engine anymore, and looks like the exhaust decided it needed a vacation from the block. I haven't had a chance to look under the car yet but whats worse case scenario. I know at the very least it's time for some new plugs and wires... so I have that covered.... I am just concerned about the exhaust problem.

Check all the exhaust connections while the engine is cold, (check for loose piping/loose at the donut gasket/loose exhaust manifold). Then start it up and quickly check for exhaust leaks before the exhaust gets hot. Try to move the piping around with a gloved left hand/feeling for exhaust pressure with your right hand, (it will get hot in a matter of a minute or so, you have to work quickly). As with any work done on our trucks with the engine running...block the wheels / parking brake applied / and much safer done with someone to help (to help start-holding the brakes-to shut the truck down). I'd also check to make sure the spark plugs are all tight.

you might have to chase the spark plug hole if it rounded out a bit :2cents:

I know that I do have an exhaust leak on the manifold on both sides... As soon as it gets day light out I will check the exhaust lines, and post what I have come up with... Thank You for the help thus far. :)

Noticed I had a wiggling plug wire the other day when jumping a skid loader with the truck, the plug was loose too.

after crawling under it doesn't seem that there is anything drastically wrong. Looks like it was just the plug. Somehow the plug just came out and I think that the noise I may have been just the exhaust coming out of the hole. I put the new plug and a new wire on and it started right up with no bad noises.
