Re: Which headers?! 71 F100, 302, 3 on the tree
The performer plus cam is not a company that designs cams they copy others so toss it.
For best low end option 1
For better power more top end with decent bottom end #3
The torque beast because you are bigger than the engine it is designed for will pull more power lower like the Baja Beast.
Any cam write up for the target displacement is for the rated performance, as the engine gets bigger the cam acts smaller as the engine gets smaller the cam acts larger. The Stealth intake will breath better at slightly lower rpms so the whole engine will be mellow and strong not tweaky from mismatched parts. Figure 500 rpm lowered in an intake for every 20 cid upwards figure the cam will come on at 1000 lower rpm for 20 cid. It will still breath good at the top end. Crower has been making cams longer than almost anybody left in the business.

Which cam are you refering to? The one I ment is from Crower.Dragon wrote:The performer plus cam is not a company that designs cams they copy others so toss it.
Another question, I´m just looking at these exhaust hangers and can´t figure out how they work? Am I stupid or what? Where does the orange part go? These aren´t static right? So I guess you bolt the u-bolt clamp to a pair of the holes on the metal but where do you mount the orange part? Wouldn´t it get static if you just did a bolt through that orange part?

On that one:

Do you hook that part on the u-bolt clamp and bolt the rest with two bolts on the frame?

The orange end is bolted to the frame the u bolts go in the holes of the bracket after the U bolt clamp is assembled.

Re: Which headers?! 71 F100, 302, 3 on the tree
I´ve got additional 30cid with that stroker kit, that means -750rpm on the intakes and -1,500rpm on the cams.Dragon wrote:Figure 500 rpm lowered in an intake for every 20 cid upwards figure the cam will come on at 1000 lower rpm for 20 cid.
So the Baja Beast would go from -300 to 2,300rpm
The Torque Beast from 500 - 3,300
In other words, the Torque Beast would for my 332cui be like the Baja Beast for a 302cui. Continuing that thesis, would one of the Hi-Draulic Hauler cams below, be for my 332cui like the Torque Beast for the 302?
What about the Hi-Draulic Hauler cams from Crower?
Hi-Draulic Hauler Level 4 (15922) (Lope at idle. Hot street/ strip cam with strong mid-range power.) would be from 700 - 4,700rpm then.
or
Hi-Draulic Hauler Level 5 (15923) (Rough idle with explosive upper bottom and mid-range torque.) would be from 1,000 - 5,000rpm
and
Hi-Draulic Hauler 5 (15924) (Rough idle with explosive mid-range torque and acceleration.) would be from 1,200 to 4,500rpm
Can you say that a camshaft or intake develops the best power in the mid of it´s rpm range?

Re: Which headers?! 71 F100, 302, 3 on the tree
They won't come down that low the engine does not breath that low. That number is just a general rule of thumb. A cam won't help an engine breathe at 300 nothing can unless it is supercharged. Figure no cam can work below 800. You said you are not looking for a racer. So the rough idle cams will still be lumpy bad idle cams they have too much duration for any real idle power and low end torque. That duration is what makes them rough idle cams. Oh and the fuel that puddles under the carb when you idle makes for some real wet smelling gas.
15917
POWER BEAST / PERFORMANCE LEVEL 3 - Emphasis on upper midrange
and top end power.
RPM Power Range: 2000 to 4800 / Redline: 6200 plus.
Will be a better choice. That same 15917 is almost identical to the Power Beast for a 390 and the 390 with it in pulls from 800 to 5200 solid all the way.

Re: Which headers?! 71 F100, 302, 3 on the tree
Thanks once again Dragon!
Well then the question now is Torque or Power Beast?
The Torque Beast seems to start a tad lower than the Power Beast, but I won´t need anything below 800rpm. Then it´s the Power Beast cam for me
I can use the same 66015-16 - HYDRAULIC LIFTERS FORD 221 302 351 370 400 429 460 with the Power Beast cam as I would have with the Baja Beast cam, right?
I wouldn´t get all these things sorted out without your help, Dragon! Thanks so much!

Re: Which headers?! 71 F100, 302, 3 on the tree
Perfect! Then the Stealth intake and everything should be fine
Does the cam gear attachment bolt come with the new cam? It isn´t included in the Summit timing set.
The Holley 600cfm should still be fine with the Power Beast cam?

The center cam bolt is not included it is nothing special though. Just get the right length and thread.

Re: Which headers?! 71 F100, 302, 3 on the tree
Will such a starter heat shield wrap be enough to protect it?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-350118/
Ot should I get some header wrap additionally?

Okay, I´ll wait and see how much clearance will be there between the headers and the starter.

Yeah, I´m already excited to put everything back together
Next thing once the stroker kit has arrived is the machine work on the block and balancing of the rotating parts.
