Is there a source for black, rubbery seal material?

Post by robroy »

Good evening,

When I pulled the transmission hump off of the floor to work on my transmission, I noticed that the hump cover plate is sealed against the cab floor with strips of thick, sticky, rubbery, black material.

Here's an overall pictures:

And a close-up of the stuff in question:

Naturally I'd like to re-assemble this area leaving it as factory fresh as possible. Does anybody know of a source for this material?

I remember seeing a roll of it somewhere made by 3M, but now I can't find that anywhere.

Thanks!

The stuff is called butyl rubber sealer... You can get it at just about any glass shop.
It comes in either rolls or tubes...

I only remembered it 'cause I just bought some for exactly the same reason... I replaced my beat up tunnel hump cover with a real nice one... :D

Good day Banjo, Fordman and KaptnKA 8) S, thanks for replying!!!

KaptnKA 8) S, given the uncommon nature of FORDification, I trust you'll receive this thread response.

I wound up using the 3M Strip Calk for this hatch, and it worked really well. The only drawback is that it's going to be a pain to pull the hatch back off someday, since this stuff's pretty sticky! This thread shows some photos of the 3M product in action.

Insulation between inner and outer fenders: which type?

Banjo, Fordman and KaptnKA 8) S, thank you again for your superb replies,

Robroy,
I'm very sad to say that KapnKaos (Allan) hasn't been with us for awhile now. :(
