re: The official 4bt conversion thread
yeah, it's going ok. i am just working out the little bits and pieces now. waiting for some parts. i will probably either have to mod or change the sump. i have spoken to cummins today about a flat bottomed sump. then, i will probably redo the mounts to put the engine 3 or so inches lower in the car. i am concentrating on getting it running now, and ironing out the bugs.

Welcome to Fordification fellows! Briney, if you get the chance, a couple shots of your motor mounts would be a big help for some of the guys considering this swap.
On the right hand drive trucks like yours is the drivetrain still offset to the right hand side like the american lefty trucks are? It'd seam to me like you'd have a heck of a time with your turbo and downpipe if it were.

yeah, the motor is 3 or so inches to the right. the diff centre is 4. the downpipe won't be too bad. i will have to use some p clips and hold the handbrake cable against the firewall. probably some ceramic coating and/or a heatshield, summer days here sometimes get to 120 degrees ! so i don't want burnt feet.

re: The official 4bt conversion thread
I have been thinking lately it would be a good idea to have the new 4bt gone through and checked, install new gaskets and such. Plus if everything is good have it balanced and blueprinted. What is the cost of a good gasket set? And will it be worth it to balance it??? I will be looking for an inter cooler for it too. What one should I look for???

The complete gasket set is a couple hundred bucks. Balancing can make a noticeable difference in these diesels even as low in the RPM range as they operate because they're usually pretty far out from perfect. Shops charge more for diesel balancing because they're more work. Atleast $200 for balancing.
For an aftercooler there isn't a real good place to put one in our trucks. If you modify the core support and move the radiator back you can fit a powerstroke aftercooler pretty easily. The other option is to run either a 4BTA water-air aftercooler that bolts to the top of the head to replace the intake lid or you can run an aftermarket water-air intercooler. With the water to air you need a small 12V pump and a couple of large tranny cooler size heat exchangers. You can mount them up under the truck somewhere out of the way to cool the aftercooler water.
For the 6BT in my '70 I plan to build my own water-air setup and mount a couple heat exchangers behind the front bumper.
