new '68 4x4! Project - Update 9/28

Post by boots »

Well I bought the 68 f250 4x4 chassis, that was posted in the trucks 4 sale section a few days ago. http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... hp?t=16019

I got it dropped off today and have some big plans for it. Here are the specs as of now... 1968 f250, 360/390, np435, divorced dana24, with 44 front and 60 rear. The cab is completely shot, im torching it off tomorrow. I told the guy go ahead and leave it so I could get all the wiring. The frame is in very good shape, as well as the steering, axles, bushings and trans/ t-case. Here are my "plans".

-Shackle flip rear, leave stock blocks
-Throw in my locked d60 rear that I have sitting around
-2WD steering box with crossover
-new front leaf hanger
-Different front leaf springs
-Raise up the t-case
-Skid plate for trans
-Rear traction bar
-Longer front shackles
- 38's or bigger

Im thinking about taking the cab, engine, steering box, all wiring and everything els I need from my 67 2wd, to put on the f250.

Sorry for the crappy pics, Ill have better ones tomorrow.

all that fab work on the 2wd and your gunna scrap it?
Geez, I'd find another truck to strip for the parts to fix the 4x4!
If you were closer, I'd buy the 2wd just for the sake of keeping it on the road!

But since its your truck and your project, then go for it! I love watching your stuff progress as well!

The 2wd was a good starter truck for me. If I went back I wouldnt even bother with a 2wd lift.. Im glad how the '67 turned out but to me this will make it more of a offroad rig. The 67s rear frame is rusted bad, the cab floor is rusted through, and the engine needs a rear main put in... which can all be done while switching over to the new frame.

Got the shackle flip done this morning. I got about 3" of lift. All the rear bushings are in great shape, so ill keep them in and stay on the "budget". The rear end is about ready to be pulled out too. Then I took the trans out, and stripped the frame some more.

Here is the front hanger which will be built to give the front lift.

The front 44 is out, and I started on the front hanger but couldn't go any farther because I have to get a new drill bit. Im not exactly sure how much lift it will have when all is complete, but I think somewhere between 3-4" over stock highboy height. Tomorrow in welding class im going to make the longer front shackles. I told my stepdad Ill run the 44 front until I blow it up then im bolting in a 60 with bigger meats..

Ethan,

That is looking good. Man, you guys work pretty fast too. Nice.

The 67 is the one with the cut tire fenders right? Are you going to do a complete swap over to the 250 frame? I think I read that, but too lazy to scroll back thru..

Loking good though!
