T5 trans.

Post by 71 LONG BED »

I was told the T5 trans out of a Mustang wasn't strong enough to put in a truck. Any truth to this?

stock there arent very strong. with a little building they can be but you would be better off to find a tremec or comparable.

I put a very mild 351 in front of my T-5 in a mustang and grenaded it.

Thanks guys. I think it would be fun burnin' through the gears of a 5 speed, but I don't want to burn up the gears of a 5 speed.

John,

If you are talking about running it behind the 302.

I think one of the later ones would be fine if you aren't planning any drag strip runs (actually starts) or stickey tires.

I forget the exact year break, but somewhere around 90, they were upgraded to "World Class".

IMO

Meaning better quality I guess. Can I run a '90 or newer on my '71? What about electronics? You know, censers and what-not. :hmm:

Oh-yea, by the way, no drag racing, just a fun weekend driver.

A little higher torque capacity and some durability improvements.

No electronics at least up to 93. (I don't think they had any after that either, but never really messed with an SN95.)

I always keep my eye open. I was at Hary's u-pull-it, a 150 acre junk yard in Pa., and every single V8 mustang was missing engine and trans. And they had about 10-20 of them. :dk: Maybe because they sell any engine for $90 and any trans for $60.

are you talking nwc or wc T5 :?

depending on what you use you truck for. if you tow a lot than no its not recommended. you should go with the truck T5 or mazda trans. also the zf is a option depending one budget.

The stock T5 only likes around 250(nwc)-300(wc) feet of torque so failure is likely if towing. but if you got a cruiser or daily driver you should be ok I got a truck with over 150000 on the mustang T5. and a mild built 351W. and 355 rear gears. But knowing that the biggest failure in the T5 is the shifter alows you to put to much force on the gears when slamming through the gears always get a good after market shifter with positive locks so over engagement doses not happen.

Now you can up date the T5 for high torque and hp say will over 500 feet of torque, though it gets costly. say another $2000 plus in parts.
WHAT ?

I want to put a 5 speed in to my 69 F100 360 with 3 speed manual. I know that i will need a drive shaft. What about trans mount, bell housing, speed cable hook up, and location of shifter in side cab?
