park safety switch diagram

Post by Zorm »

Anyone have the schematics for the park/neutral safety switch mounted on the lower steering column? If I slide it just right, I can start the truck. I want to remove it and mount a toggle switch in its place, so I need to know what wires and what is actually going through them (will I need to mount a relay also or just a heavy duty switch) thanks

anyone know if this is also where the backup light turn on from? There is 4 contacts in this thing. When I make two of them (both red wires) I can start the truck, going to look and see but what does the 2 black wires / contacts do?

If I remember correctly, the back up lamp switch is not the transmission. Follow circuit 140

Removed this switch from my steering column. Checked amp draw while I had the two red wires jumped and its only pulling like 2-3 amps. I found a 6 amp toggle switch I had laying around and soldered it in, no need for a relay or anything. Mounted the toggle switch just to the right of the ignition key and its working great. I did jumper the two other wires together (black ones) and did not see anything happen. I looked through some of the wire diagrams but did not see the safety switch, so no idea what they go to.

Just thought I would post this if your having issues with this switch. I got tired of moving the shiftier back and forth into park and neutral just to start the truck. I tightened up the shiftier linkage and made sure P is park, everything lines up fine, just would not start.
