Horn Help 69 F250 2WD Automatic

Post by timmk21 »

So my horn hasn't been working since I've had her. Wired up the horn, got her power so I thought it was all good. Take off the steering wheel and come to find out the wire that sticks out from the column and should be making contact (I think) is cut. If I touch the wire and touch metal the horn goes off. I looked on LMC to see what I needed to buy but couldn't find it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I believe you are talking about the contacts-those spring-loaded things with a flat base, a bullet-shaped top and a wire connecting the base to the top. They tend to break when you try to remove them.
Dennis Carpenter carries them-see this page for a picture to verify that we are talking about the same thing.

But...they are out of stock, with no word on when they will have more.

I just ordered a pair from a company called Rubber the Right Way. They claim "top quality, USA made," and they have them in stock-I just received notification that mine shipped. Their website is not as user-friendly as Carpenters, but they seem like friendly folks. They charge 4.95 each plus shipping.

If these are what you need, make sure you get two of them-one sticking out from the steering wheel to engage the horn button, the other in the turn signal switch.

I just received the horn contacts. They are Dennis Carpenter-branded parts, made in China. They look to be correct with regard to size, and, by eye, seem to be of decent quality.
