Help Brake lights not working

Post by crazy67f100 »

Hello, I am new to this and to my 67 f100. I do not have brake lights, reverse lights or hazard lights, the turning signals work as well as the tail lights, I have checked for loose wires and they are all secure, the brake switch test hot when I test it, I have changed out the fuses as well, but I am lost as to what this could be.

we found a short in ours where someone had spliced in a trailer plug years ago. locate the wire and try to trace out using test light to see where the power loss is at. Time consuming I know

Update: We replaced the brake light switch and now the passenger brake light works, but not the driver side, also now the turn signals do not work and they worked before replacing the brake light switch.

Welcome to the site.

The brake light power goes through the turn signal switch, then back out to the lights.
If the t.s. switch gets sticky or dirty it can interfere with the stop lights.
sometimes you can clean it with electrical cleaner .
You'll have to pull the steering wheel to do this.

Also make sure you didn't disturb the wires going to the steering column while changing the brake switch.

Make sure you have a good ground. The bulb housing grounds into the truck box by the two Phillips screws that hold it in. The other day my
Turn signal made my marker lights on top of the cab and every other light blink with the turn signal engaged. Freaked me out. Fixed by cleaning up ground spot
