what size battery

I bought a new battery for my truck about a year ago. It developed a bad lifter tap so it was parked and I put the battery on my racecar since it fits perfect. I plan on buying a new battery in a week or so. I was hoping to get away with the $50 battery which is 540cca. If not I will go with the $75 battery which is 900 and something cca and is huge. I have a basically stock 390 in my truck

I always get the biggest CCA rated battery that will physically fit.  To me it's a little added security in the middle of winter, to know she'll crank over good when it's below -10*.

Right now I got a 900-some cca battery in the truck from Walmart.  Some people say they are junk but I never had any problems with them.  Got around a 300 amp battery in the lawn tractor, could probably jump a car off that !!

I went to my local Farm Store and bought a 27" battery rated at 1000CCA/1150CA.
Fit OK in my battery tray.
Truck starts EVERY TIME. I think i paid $80/$85 for it. It was rated as a Commercial/Industrial.
Heck, i've even pulled it out of the truck, jump started a diesel farm tractor with it, put it back in, and drove home

I think these trucks had a 27 battery originally. I have a cheepie autozone 24 in it now & it looks too small in the batt. tray. Im not sure on the cranking amps....

A #65 fills the battery tray perfectly and you can get those with some pretty powerful CCAs as they're the ones used in the diesels.

Well.... I mashed down the front edge of the tray and by golly that big ol' Group 31 battery fits right in there.

Some doofus had replaced one of the four batteries in a customer's new-to-him Freightshaker and he wondered why it always needed a jump. Got him 4 new ones, sent the 3 deaders back and put the good one in the Ford.

5 years later and still cranks right up.

You know, I kept one of the batteries out of our old Freightliner when we replaced them. This one tested 'okay' so I hung on to it and threw in a junker for a core. That battery sat in my garage forever. I finally got a couple of those terminal converters to make it a normal post battery and I stuck it in my '77 F150 so I wouldn't have to keep swapping batteries around whenever I wanted to move it. That huge battery fit in there with NO modification, but it couldn't get any tighter! That battery is now frighteningly old, but still starts strong. </end rambling>
