Correct color combo for steering column/wheel

Post by gaertner_jan »

Hey guys,

On a 1968 F100 custom cab, what would be the correct colors for the steering column and steering wheel if the truck is painted Marlin Blue with black upholstery? Should the wheel and column be black? Seems to me that would look quite sinister... And does anyone know if a two tone Marlin Blue with Wimbledon White would have been available in 1968? Kind of like in the pictures...

thanks! J

I'm not sure for 68 but my 71 column and wheel are matched to the seat and dash and door panels.

Agree with M100,

Have you checked with your data plate (code for interior color) to know for sure that it was black?

In the pics above, that truck would probably have blue upholstery and steering column, as the inside of the cab would be painted the same color (blue) as the body.

If the colours were reversed, the inside of the cab would be painted white, where the upholstery colour could be either blue or black.

That being said, there may have been some exceptions to these rules with custom dealer orders.

What do the dealer brochures show?

I went with black column and wheel on my '70 inspired '71 (hate the 2 spoke wheel) as black matched the seat, door panels and dash pad. Headliner was white, rest grabber (industrial) blue.

To throw another combo in the mix........the truck color is Rangoon Red, black dashpad and armrests, and the seat, headliner and trim, seatbelts, sunvisors, and steering wheel and column are all tan (parchment)...all original..........I probably just added to the confusion.........
