replacing side window track

Post by chazskinz »

Ok I was lucky enough to find a minty tinted side window in a junkyard here in MD.
I have to replace the track to put it in opposite side of truck that it came out of.
Could anyone help with how to safely remove the old track from the window? Instructions on how to replace track would be an added bonus.

Four years in the driveway wrenchin' and hoping to get on the road this summer.
Thanks to any and everyone who may reply.

First tempered glass is tough but fragile.
if you chip an edge its can go poof.

You should be able to remove the bottom track by gently tapping on it and pulling .

The original way to reinstall it was to use a special rubber strip of the right thickness.
and soak it in oil so it would swell up and grip the glass.

These days you can use an adhesive urethane., or even silicone.

So maybe soaking in a solvent, or oil would lube up that gasket enough to remove it...?

I took mine to a glass shop. They tried 2 different thicknesses of the tape until it was tight enough not to pull off. Charged me $5.
