69 f100 getting Media Blasted tomorrow

Post by prdjr1 »

I am having my f100 dustless media blasted tomorrow - is there any precautions i should take to prepare ?I'm worried about all the water going down the cowl area and inside the doors.I have cleaned out the bed seams with a wire wheel and they look pretty good,I'm going to have the guy blast the bed seams anyway and i'll use some rust encapsulator in there later after it dries real good.I ducted taped where the cargo light opening is to keep water out of the roof section.I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this media blasting don't uncover a bunch of rust or previous body work.

The cowl area drains behind the wheels and the doors drain from 4? different holes each on the underside of them; so I wouldn't worry about water. Bed seam is tough to kill rust and you'll get lots of different opinions. I've heard of guys blasting so hard they break the spot welds in the bed seam. If a pro shop is doing it they should know what's best.

Here’s hoping the media blasting doesn’t uncover any bad spots. Keep in mind, it’s 50 yrs old.

As far as rust encapsulator stuff, I wouldn’t use Por15 on anything,...my :2cents:

The media blasting worked great-It did uncover some previous body damage but nothing major.I was very pleased to not find any rust around the roof drip rail or the cab corners.I ended up blasting the bed seams and then cleaned them with a wire wheel,I then put Eastwoods rust encapsulator in the seams as best i could.Hopefully that will keep the rust at bay for a long time!
I would add pictures but every time i try it says the file is to large...

Glad to hear it all worked out without finding a bunch of rust. Usually for pictures you have to download them to a photo hosting site then copy paste over to here. Don't use photo bucket! I use image shack... it works for now

You can also use Adobe Elements to resize photos and lower the resolution, but that costs money. My wife uses it, so it's "free" to me.

Congratulations on the blasting not uncovering any real issues! As for photos, you can resize then in MS Paint which comes free with every Windows computer. Resize to 400 pixels x 600 pixels (about the size of a 4x6 photo print). That'll usually get it down to under 500kb. You can also resize it by 50% or something similar until you get small enough. I have a special folder I save resized photos in or name them ????_small so I don't mess with my original high res photos.
