Softseal door weatherstripping

Has anyone used Softseal door w-strip?

I bought repop from someone, not really even sure which supplier, but it is ridiculously tight. Hoping it'll relax over time, but Softseal said their materials are better and it is much softer

Any opinions? I don't have the option of moving the door, the body lines are right. About ready to take a hammer and block of wood to the lip where the w-strip mounts, but hopefully the Softseal is different

OK gang, pics to come later, but after waiting for months for me new LMC weatherstrip to loosen up, I bought some Soffseal brand, part number FD9009

It is completely different from the junk repop stuff. The channel fit tighter so it went together easier, the "bead" or sealing part of it, is probably 1/4 inch smaller, maybe more, it made the bends without wrinking.

My doors click shut like new again. The kit was 44.00 from Summit, so not significantly more expensive and I don't have to slam my doors 8)

Thanks for the review. Keep us updated on how it acts in the long run. I'll be at that point in a couple more months.

Any pictures of the difference? I have new weatherstrip to install and I'm predicting it'll be tight and is the normal stuff everyone uses, but I'll be up for changing of needed.

I wouldn't waste my time with the LMC stuff, you can see if isn't made to go on our narrow piece of sheetmetal on the jamb, and its so thick in diameter, it would have been years before it gave in.

I have owned my truck since 1984, and the doors always click shut, prior replacements were with Ford EOM wstrip, but you cant get it anymore. Thats why I tried LMC, I won't again

I believe my weatherstrip came from NPD, but I believe it's the same cheap stuff everyone else uses like LMC.

Does the softseal weatherstrip have a firm channel portion? Like it would be metal reinforced? Newer factory(not for this truck) seals do, and I like how they grip the channel and mold in place well, but don't know how they would fit on the floor under the trim.

No metal in the channel, just proper dimensions for our trucks. I am very impressed, fits like mine has all these years.

That last crap was miserable, no reason to have to slam a bump door, they are some of the best fitting doors ever. Especially with rebuilt hinges and properly adjusted doors.

So many of my passengers are used to big heavy vehicles with ill-fitting doors...I guess they think "Ahh, truck", and give a mighty pull!

I tend to coach any passengers about the doors...something like, "The door shuts easily", or "No need to slam!"!

I used National (I think) seals in the bump for years, never did relax much. Good to know there's a proper seal available.

Thank you for sharing! I just put LMC weatherstrip in my '70 F250 & it changed my doors from easy shut to needing a super hard slam. After reading the blog this morning, I ordered Softseals, looking forward to a nice quiet door close. BTW, during the refresh, I had to change the oil pan, bought one from Summit for $50. It did not fit my engine, had to buy a 428CJ pan. However, I had primed & painted the Summit pan Ford blue, so it wasnt returnable. I used Dennis Carpenter on my 67. I've heard horror stories about LMC so I don't use them. My doors did shut tightly, just like new and they loosened up after a while.

I have heard a lot of people like Softseal,
I was advised to use Precision brand, off of ebay and it fit very well. Recommend.

From what I saw, every Precision door weatherstrip on ebay was more expensive than SoftSeal, not that price is always the determining factor. One of the cool things about living in the US is that with the web we can find a variety of products for our trucks. I hope that whatever products each of us choose, they will meet our expectations & help preserve our trucks for many years to come.

The way I read it, $38.99 was per door. Summit's price for SoftSeal is for a pair. But, again, it's personal preference. No matter what product any of us buy, the important thing is that we're preserving and enjoying them. From what I've read in this thread, there are several door weatherstrips to choose from and one to avoid.
