Black textured roof

Postby Joe Kriston on Wed Nov 11, 2009 10:36 am

I've seen the option in the brochures and I think a member here has a nice red one with the black textured roof...Anybody know anything about them---what the texture was like---can it be duplicated?...I'm considering going with that since the paint on my roof has too much efforflorescence(sp) to bring it back to life...

i think that was a paint job of some sort. i dont think it was actual vinyl or any kind of rough surface.

Yeah, I think it was some kind of paint---maybe like that hammerpaint they used on file cabinets, only black...I'd like to see a close-up of the texture....I did see a bumpside at a junkyard once that the guy put a vinyl top on---kinda cool looking, actually, but I'm sure not factory, and I wouldn't go that route, anywho...

I think that it's probably similar to the paint that GM used on roofs of the the full-size Blazers and Jimmys.

It's got a rough texture, but not rough like undercoating or bedliner material.  In fact, it feels a lot like a vinyl top.

Check with a body paint and supply shop. I remember years ago a neighbor had the top of his 1964 Fairlane done when vinyl tops were the in thing. It felt like what I used to call spatter paint that they used on car trunks. It really looked pretty good.
