Hey neverdone...

Welcome to FORDification...
Since yer a newbie, I just wanna make a small correction in yer terminology.
Ford didn't ever produce a fleetside or a stepside truck, those are chevy terms for what Ford calls the styleside and flareside.
The Ford flareside has fenders that attach to the bed whereas a styleside does not.
As far as the tailgate goes, check out the link below, it will tell you all you ever wanted to know about them

Copied from the FORDification link posted above...

"The '64-'66 tailgate WILL interchange with the '67-'72 trucks and the body lines will be correct. However, note the difference in the letters. The '64-'66 letters are of a sans-serif style font, whereas the '67-'72 letters are of serif font."

Most people would never even notice the difference between the serif font used on generation 5 bumps and the sans-serif (without serif) font used on the generation 4 slicks.

Hey neverdone...

I'm not a terminology nazi... but there ones that just arn't right those there are two of them...
I'm just a truck sorta guy... I really don't care what ya drive... heck, I've even driven Dodge trucks...
Oh, did I just say that in my outload voice...
I grew up around just about every model and make of truck from F1's to Pete's and KW's...
pretty much my whole family were truckers of one sort or another...
They did everything from constrution work to long haul so I'd guess you'd say that it is in my blood... :D
I do know that the info on the tailgates was correct...
Dent tailgates will mecanically fit and work as well, but the body lines are different.
