Hood to Cowl Seal ?

Post by BillT »

Need a Hood to Cowl Seal (Long Rubber Weatherstrip) for my '69 F-350 and wondering where would be a good place to order one from?

Thanks

They are all pretty much the same and none of them fit well.. Maybe Dennis Carpenter will have a better one but they are all pretty much the same from what I have seen. I put one on from National Parts Depot and it came in a Dennis Carpenter bag, so I am pretty sure they are all made by the same vendor. Anyway, they do not fit well to the original mounting locations and I have heard this from everyone that has bought one. Basically what I ended up doing was only using a few of the clip locations to hold the seal in its general correct location and then used a silicone epoxy to attach it in place and make it completely waterproof.

I know I remember reading something about someone using a piece of door weatherstripping as a cowl seal, but the @#$%!*& search engine on here won't let me look for it! :x
They used the clip part to attach it to the cowl lip, and the seal part facing up, IIRC.

Appreciate the replies. I may just try a repro one and see how my luck goes. I found one at LMC for a pretty cheap price, but I'll also check with Dennis Carpenter.

They only list them for F-150 and 250's, but am I correct in saying that it will also fit my F-350 ?

Don't waste the extra money at Dennis Carpenter for that part as it does not fit just as well as the others. Just get it at LMC or NPD and then get yourself some clear marine silicone and have fun. As for the F100 and F250 fitting.. yes. The F350 cowl and hood are no different. It will fit (or not fit) as well as it does on the 100 and 250.

and if your truck doesn't get to sleep in a garage when your not using it and you live in a area where it rains at least once a month, be prepared to change it 2 to 3 times a year. this particular weather stripping piece succumbs to dry rot faster than anything i have ever witnessed. faster than anything i have ever seen. the original 1972 windshield rubber on my truck holds up better than this 5 month old piece of rubber. the crappy g body rubber on my monte carlos i've owned held up better. i left one of the firestone tires that was recalled outside for years and is looking better. i'm on my 4th cowl stripping. if i were you i would find something other than the cowl stripping to use and make it work
