Foldsmobile F-250?

Post by occupant »

Just saw this on Tulsa CL...had to weigh in on it because it combines two great things. 1) A bumpside pickup 2) a Rocket 350 V8

1968 Ford F 250 Tulsa CL $750

For some reason I don't see anything wrong with this truck at all. It means it should be easy to get running and driving and I can enjoy the truck while I put together some other sort of engine/transmission combination (when I started typing this post I was thinking 351W EFI/AOD for gas, or for diesel, a 6.9 or 7.3, or maybe 4BT/6BT Cummins, but now thinking as it has engine mounts and all to match a GM engine, why not use the 6.2L Chevy/GMC diesel?) to go in there, and I can ALSO make sure that when I'm ready to put said engine/transmission combination in there that I have a 74-77 Cutlass or 77-79 Delta 88 or 77-90 Custom Cruiser wagon ready for a transplant so I can make more good use of that 350/auto combo.

For $750 and a straight body (sans tailgate) and a clean interior and probably not far from running and driving, this may be a better vehicle to focus my efforts on than the beater flatbed or the one in Elk City with transmission issues.

For those who don't know, I have way too many automotive loves in life. First and foremost are 1974-1979 Ford intermediates like Torinos, Montegos, Cougars, Rancheros, and Thunderbirds (have owned two whole, one parts, one I bought and it got impounded before I could tow it home). A strong second are the 67-72 Ford pickups (have owned three). Tying for third are the FWD GM A-bodies (Century, Celebrity, Ciera, have owned eight) and the 77-up RWD GM B-bodies (Impalas/Caprices, Delta 88s/98s, Buick Electras, have owned ten). Tying for fifth are Chrysler F/M bodies (77-89 LeBaron-Diplomat-5th Ave-Gran Fury, owned three), Datsun 210 (79-82, owned three), Ford Tempos with manual shift (86-94, owned two), and Dodge Dynastys (88-93, owned three). Whenever I go looking for cars to buy, those are what I search for first, then I start looking for anything else available in my budget, preferably 70s, then 80s, then 60s, then 90s. And then I have this giant list of other cars I want to own before I die. Stuff like a 71-72 Centurion or LeSabre coupe, 86-89 Fleetwood Brougham with the 307 engine, 72-75 Chevy BelAir or Impala sedan, 74-78 Newport, 74-77 Royal Monaco, 77-78 Monaco, 75-80 Granada, 78-83 Fairmont, 90-94 Town Car, 71-76 Delta 88, and loads of assorted 80s-90s cars I grew up seeing but couldn't afford like 97-99 Maxima GLEs, 90-93 Integra sedans, Eagle Premiers, and the LeBaron GTS/Lancer hatchbacks.

And I just found a '68 with a 455 and a blown motor for $1400. Body is straighter and freshly primed it seems...

Here is the original $750 F250 with a Rocket 350 ad, reposted 3/3:

'69 F250 with a 4-speed and a 2-barrel 302 he thinks:

And my favorite off the Tulsa CL, a 1970 F100 with a 351M/automatic for $400 that runs and drives but needs brakes:

As much as I want a 4-speed, that 351M powered truck would probably be a better start. Get the brakes functional and drive it home, enjoy it around town while I acquire bits. I wonder if it was always an automatic or if there's a clutch pedal sitting on the floor and all I need to come up with is a good 460cid's ZF 5-speed transmission, clutch, linkage, cylinders, and lines, and make the swap. The 351M is external balance 28oz, so no problem there. Worst case I need some manual pedals and brackets. I think it's doable, dude has a voicemail from me now.
