Remove Glove Box Dash Bezel?

Post by GTWilliams »

What is the trick to removing the passenger side dash bezel on a '77? Do I need a deep socket for those six nuts inside? If so, anyone know the size of the nut? Any tips appreciated.
I was surprised to not find this topic posted. Maybe I missed it.

Part of the problem is that you are asking about a 77....

While there are folks here that have experience with the dentside trucks, most of our familiarity is with the bumpsides. Hopefully someone will answer up here that knows, but if not, you might want to post the question over at the sister site at www.fordification.net which is dedicated to the 73-79 trucks.

Thanks. I joined this when I had my '67. Then got back on this month when I bought a '77. I'm off to the dark side. Oops. I meant dent-side.

If you are talking about the wood looking trim like this picture, it is on with double stick trim tape.

Mine is on with bolts that are built into the bezel and go through the steel dash. So far it looks like no way, no how, it is coming off without removing the dash pad and accessing the nuts from the top. I got six off going inside the glove box. But the ones on the upper right and lower left (next to radio) are just not accessible. And the screws holding the dash pad on are stubborn! I'll post pics once I get it out (presuming I do).

So you are talking about the trim ring that goes around the glove box and vents. If that is it they have got nuts on the back, but you Do Not have to take the dash pad off. Best way to get them is though the glove box and pull the vents out so you can get the nuts around them. Should be 10 nuts.

Its late. I'm working on two frustrating projects. Yes, I meant the trim ring. How do the exhaust vents come out?

If I remember right each vent has two clips on each side. The side next to the glove box you can get to though the glove box hole and push them in while pulling that side of the vent out. The other side you can take a small screw driver and carefully pull them back in though the louvers in the vent.

You were exactly correct. 10 plastic inset screws. But you must first disconnect the heater tubes. The one on the right just pulled away after I squeezed in these clasps The one near the radio was a bear. After a very long time (I'm ashamed to say) and snapped the clips off. This means they will be glued to the dash. More pics soon.
Thank you!

I'm having the same problem. I went through my glove box but there is no way I can get the bottom nuts.
