How to install ignition switch?

Post by Luckis »

Hello!

So, my F100 came without the original ignition switch and i plan to install it, i just bought the part, its this one

Image

It also brings the front nut that screws into it. Problem is, i never seen the original one installed and i have no idea how to put it. Originally i thought that just putting it from behind and screwing it would be it, but it turns out it is not, it hangs there all loose, I´m apparently missing something.

I saw some other switches that come with a big spring, could this be the piece i´m missing?

Thanks a lot, greetings from Argentina, and sorry for my bad english!

That's all there is to it. Stick the switch it from the back side and screw the bezel (nut) onto it until it's tight in the dash. Got the right bezel nut? Looks like this http://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_truck ... -f500.html You should also have a ring/sleeve like the center part in this picture http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/product/Ho ... o/tech_faq

Aw, damn, i´m missing that sleeve. That would put some distance and allow the bezel to screw it tight. I´m also missing the spring seen in that last picture. I guess the manufacturer assumes that you are replacing one switch with another of the same type. It will be a pain to get those pieces around here :(

I'm not sure if this is the same as our trucks but it lists up to 1967 http://cgfordparts.com/wwwsectionfiles/ ... h%20Spacer I also don't remember there being a spring like that Bronco switch shows. Maybe somebody else here can tell us for sure? All you really need is a piece of thin wall pipe or tubing cut to the length from this shoulder tabs to the start of the threads. I.D. needed to be large enough for the bezel to fit inside. I don't think the spring is necessary.

This is the part you need.

If you can see the screw look under your dash right below where the ignition goes. Do you see a small hole? The screw
will come up from bottom of dash, it will screw into this piece. Once that piece is in, you can replace the ignition with no problem.
I've never taken out a spring with this setup.

Interesting, Chico. My '70 didn't have that tab for the screw on my sleeve, just the round ring, however it does have that screw hole under there that you're talking about. PO must've done something different. Learn more every day!

Interesting, i don´t think i can get that part around here, picking is kind of slim for these old vehicles. I guess i´ll have to try coming up with something to replace it like sargentrs says. :hmm:
