D44HD knuckle

Post by RedneckTexan »

Is there a difference in the knuckles on the solid axles and TTB axles? I know where a D44HD or D50 TTB is and I was wondering if those outer kunckles will fit on my D44 light-duty axle? I'd like to convert my L.D. axle to a H.D. axle.

D44 TTB outers will, but 50 stuff is completely different.

I swapped 85 TTB44 knuckles on a 75 F-100 solid 44 under my 91 F-250. I read some bad news that the TTB knuckles have a different kingpin angle than the solid stuff, but found this is not true. The knuckles are the same. As it turned out, I needed 1 degree camber shims for what I did. I thought it was the TTB knuckles so I swapped on a set of 78-79 3/4 ton knuckles just to find out that the camber is exactly the same.

Just goes to show you that the internet is full of crappy mis-information. If some jackoff hadn't claimed they were different I'd have just bought the camber shims to start with.
