Hmm, F-250 4x4 frame width

Post by ziggy »

I had read several places that the F-250 4x4 frame was narrower than, say, the F-100's.

But not according to the factory's drawings, look here:
http://fordification.com/bodybuilder70.htm

Seems to be the same width, within .01".

Thoughts?

It would be interesting to find the same drawing for the 77.5-79 F-250 to see the specific differences in the frame rails.

As far as bumpside trucks are concerned, every body part will interchange between 2wd and 4x4 and every rear axle has the same spring perch spacing. There is no difference in frame width. 73-79 the same is not even remotely true though.

Why the concern over frame width?

FRAME WIDTHS:

- '67-'72 2WD/4WD all narrow (don't know how far back that goes, 34" wide was an SAE standard for all trucks back then)
- '73-'79 all 2WD narrow front, wide rear
- '73-'79 F100 4WD narrow front, wide rear
- '73-'77.5 F250 4WD all narrow
- '77.5-'79 F250 4WD narrow front, wide rear
