Largest tire for a D44HD?

Post by waynaferd »

What's the biggest tire you guys are running on your 3/4 tons? Could I get away with 38's with moderate off-roading and a hefty big-block, and open diff? It's on a 67 F-250....Thanks!!
A 72 F-250 Hi-Boy "project" ( that means sitting untouched for 3 or so years)

And a little 94 F-150 Flareside, 7" higher and 35's...

Not more than a 35 is recommended but If your not hammering it I'm sure you could make it work for a while till you have some carnage, or something wears out prematurely due to strain of the larger tires.

If you still have the closed knuckle HD 44 the biggest worry is the knuckle casting breaking from abuse. I have seen 38" tires on pavement pounders.

i would say 38's max with no hard 4wheeling. i wouldn't go any bigger than 35-37's though. I have 33's on mine but plan to go with 35's :D Just make sure your inner and outer bearing are in good shape and snug. I would also do a routine check of suspension and brake componets, along with your king pins and u-joints.
