Voltage Regulator

Post by blue68 »

Is it okay if there is a thick layer of paint behind where my voltage regulator mounts to the radiator support? Will this cause a bad ground? My brand new battery wont keep a charge. Could this be why? (Everything else is new, alternator and wiring, etc..)

You want to have a good metal to metal contact, so I would clean off the paint around the mounting area. It doesn't have to be a big area.

I always thought it grounded through the bolt holes.
atleast clean that area off good. With the terminal cleaner brush end.

I'm with rj. I don't see any reason to scrape off any paint behind the regulator. There is a ground that comes out of the loom there. Just make sure that it is good and sound.

I thought that there was a ground wire that attached to one of the screws and provided a ground for the regulator?

I scraped off some paint, neatly, and sanded the surfaces and it made my battery start keeping a charge for the first time since my initial startup. Weird, huh? :hmm: Thats a good thing, though.

Yea, that's the one I was talking about. At any rate, he got it fixed so it's moot now!
