Looking for Part # ID...Steering Column

Postby clineco » Tue Sep 05, 2017 11:12 pm

Hi - I was hoping somebody could confirm the part number for the circled item in the attached image. I'm guessing #3510 ... is that correct?

Looks like what's left of your lower column bearing https://www.carolina-classics.com/carol ... er=product Same one on the upper end too.

That's it - 3510 - little metal ring that has a felt type seal behind it......

The bearings are #3517...........its still in the bottom of the column and if you replace them everyone lists them as the same but they aren't - the bottom bearing has a smaller OD than the top but it will work - just did mine and it works fine........

Thanks guys. The pic I provided isn't my truck, but I can't help but notice the greased up white nylon sleeve, I'm assuming this is part #3518. From the schematic it looks like this should be on the other side of the lower bearing. Am I reading the schematic wrong?

The sleeve slides up inside the lower bearing - It's tapered so it doesn't slide up inside and keeps the shaft centered on the bearing - the steering shaft itself doesnt ride on the bearing - there's one on the top end of the column also on the other bearing - sometimes I have trouble figuring them out too if I'm by the truck on my small tablet........my eyes aren't what they used to be........

This will give you some working knowledge of how it all goes together. viewtopic.php?t=72274 Almost everything except the steering column shaft is available through the usual vendors.
