2wd front end lift.

Post by Bunkerhillbilly »

Ok. Got my 8.8 in my 77F100. Put extra springs in. Now back end bout 4" higher than before. What I would like to do is raise the front. How much lift can I put on the front before I have to change suspension parts? 2 or 3 inches would be enuff. I got a set of 6" over springs I can bob off. I can just cut on em till I get where I want.

I'll answer it because no one else here wants to hurt your feelings... :(

If you've already lifted the back end of the truck there's a good possibility you've gone past the normal 7 degrees of drive shaft angle, (unless you removed then re-welded the rear spring perches onto the axle) so you might have a hard time keeping universal joints in that driveshaft.

The question your asking on the front is not accurate enough to answer. When lifting the front of a truck you have to change the suspension components to do so.
The steering components are what you need to be concerned with. If you put anything over two inches of lift into the front of a 70's Ford 2WD truck you can guarantee you added 4-5 degrees of positive camber to the front and it will never be able to be aligned like that making it not safe to drive.

yeah, trying to get that out of a stock front end is going to mess around with alignment specs and drive-ability, I have a buddy who when we were in high school had a 69 f250 2wd. the previous owner had found some outfit that bent the i-beams to keep alignment specs in and get some lift out of it. that truck sat at about the same height as a stock 4x4. so I think if your going for that much height adjustment in the front your going to have to find somebody who bends the i-beams correctly then you need to figure out if steering will be an issue.

I've never been a fan of twin I beam front ends. Way too heavy. Guess that's why I love my 64. Can't beat a straight axle.
