Cragar SS wheels fitment for 1970 F100 2WD

Post by det45 »

Hello all, I've decided I would like to install some 15" cragar SS wheels on my 1970 Ford Ranger XLT 2WD. I am not sure which cragar SS part number to use but my F100 has drum brakes front and back. Can anyone tell me what the OEM wheel specs are for my truck and which Cragar SS wheel part number I will need to get? I would also like to install the largest and widest BFGoodRich tires on these cragar SS wheels. I think the stock wheels on my truck are 5x5.5 with 0 offset and 4" backspacing but I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks........det45

Ok I did a little research on the Cragar SS wheel part numbers for my (1970 F100 2wd) from JEGs. P/N 08850 is for the 15x8 Cragar SS wheels, P/N 08155 is for the 15x10 Cragar SS wheels. The 15x8 Cragar wheels have a 4 inch backspace and a -12mm offset where the 15x10 Cragar SS wheels have a 4.250 inch backspace with a -32mm offset. There is a note from Cragar that states you must use their half inch spacer/lug nut kit P/N 29201 for the 2wd 1967 to 72 F100 so the front wheels mount flush to the hubs. They also state that these wheels will not work on 1973 to 1979 2wd F100s. So with this all said I think I will go with the 15x8 Cragar SS wheels with 275/60-15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As both front and back. Hope this helps..............det45. 8)

Hi Det,

I'm sure you'll get a bunch of replies, as most of us are either going through the same decision process, or have gone through it. I'm going to run factory '96 F150 chrome 15x8's all around, and I know many folks have run these without issue.

Are you running the stock rear diff? If you are, the stock track width in the rear is 4" narrower than the front, so wide meats in the back with offset is desirable to get the right look. There are also hub-centric spacers out there, which I plan to use on mine to widen the stance in the rear. At 1.25", I won't quite reach the same as the front but my hope is that it will be less noticeable.

Oh yeah - pics please!! We all want to see your outcome and your shiny new Cragar's! :D

Craigers are available in 5x5.5" but not too common, and not cheap considering...

I went with the 94-96 F150/Bronco Aluminum rims and am pleased with them... i paid for my used set what one could pay for a single new Craiger...

Following closely. I'm with you det45! I plan on using the same wheels (it's going to be awhile) when I get there. Interested to see how it works for you.
