Steering box interchange info

Post by Ohiotinkerer »

Future project was putting power steering on my 68 F100 but came across the steering box and pump with brackets in dad's garage that he was going to put on his 78 F100 but sold before he put it on. Part # on it is C7AR-3A587A. Anyone with any knowledge if it will fit my 68?........... :?

I just posted this link to the tech section for someone else. Does this answer your fitment questions?

http://www.fordification.com/tech/powersteering.htm

I think the two big "gotchas" when converting to power steering are:

1. The length of the steering shaft, and

2. the driver-side engine stand.

The other issue is 2WD vs 4WD, because I think they use different steering boxes.

That's exactly the info I needed! Already knew what I need for the column but was lost on what else would fit after 1972. I did a search but must have missed that somehow. Thanks Joseph - greatly appreciated!.......
