How long should it take to overhaul steering?

Post by 91Bear »

This process: http://www.fordification.com/tech/3spd-column_01.htm

Can I have it done in a day? (pull steering wheel, pull column, replace bearings and bushings, replace rag joint, replace turn signal switch and put it all back together in working order?)

as long as you have the parts that you need for sure on hand. no problems. be ready to put it back together with the old parts in case you dotn have a plastic sleve or something you may need.

I agree with Fordman. I just finished mine and had all the parts including bearings, shifter thrust washers, and reused my TS switch. You can easily do this in a day, BUT be prepared to find some things that you may not be able to see until it's apart. My shift tube had a broken collar, which I had to have welded and then file to fit. There were gremlins inside of mine that had to be solved as I went along so if you need your truck for transportation, you may wish to do this on a LOOONG weekend.

Good luck!
