Disk brakes on a 5 lug D60 rearend?

Post by heep70 »

Anyone done a disk brake conversion on a 5 lug Dana 60 rearend? I can make my own brackets but looking to see if there are brackets made from a vendor. Let me know.

Does the f100 60 use the same pattern on the backing plate? If so www.ruffstuffspecialties.com makes tons of disc and dana 60 stuff fair priced. Curious if that pattern is the same. Never had my hands on one just only saw them under trucks.

All the disk bracket places I have looked at including Ruffstuff only sell full floater and newer semi float disk brake brackets. The flange mounting holes are different. They do sell blanks brackets without offsets. The late 60's semi floating D60s have that bearing flange on the ends of the tubs like the Ford 9". I have not taken any measurements yet so I don't know if the OD of the tubes are the same between the full floating and semi floating tubes. I do know that you can weld new 9" bearing flanges onto the D60 tubes after doing a little lathe work to the flanges. The 9" flanges have the same bolt pattern as the 8.8 rearend brake brackets. I have a feeling I will end up making my own brackets. I did it with my Toyota 8" rearend, it was easy money.

Subscribed! I have a factory D60 and I was thinking about doing the same, with also no love from aftermarket. Good luck!

Dang sure learned something there. The 9 inch flange sounds like a good way to roll as the are plentiful. Can't wait to see!

I will keep the D60 flanges attached unless I can't get a bracket bought or self made. Welding new flanges on will require an alignment tool and clocking the flanges correctly. Not hard but time consuming and finding an alignment bar to borrow. Weighing my options.
