Assitance with engine and rear end pinion angle

Post by ek9beezler »

Hey guys I'm hoping to get some insight on how to go about doing this properly. Quick run down for you:

1966 F100 long bed. Chopped frame 14" to convert to short bed.
Fatbar 4 link rear suspension is fabbed and in place.
Will be using a ford 8.8 rear out of a 2003 crown vic
2003 crown vic front end swapped
2003 LM7 (Chevy 5.3 liter LS variant) with 4l80e transmission

The engine is set in place and will be bolted up. I need to set the trans crossmember to get the right angle on the engine. What should I be looking for on that angle.

Once that is complete I'll set the ride height and then tack weld the rear end in at the opposite angle of the transmission.

My drive sits on an angle so my plan was to level out the frame with the engine and front suspension mounted and measure the angle of the transmission in order to use that as a guide for the rear end angle. Does that seem to make sense? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Make the pinion centerline 2-3 degrees lower than the trans output shaft centerline. Axle torque will bring it up some.
