C4 Extension shaft swap

Post by CV1186 »

All, I have a C4 transmission with a yoke output shaft, that was originally in a long bed. It now resides in my short bed and was doing good duty until reverse decided it didn't want to play anymore. I can get a good deal on a re manufactured C4, however it only comes with the slip yoke extension shaft. It seems like swapping my old yoke set-up onto the new trans should be pretty straight forward. Am I correct in my thinking here? Is the governor the same? Any thoughts or advice will help. I am trying to avoid having to have a new drive shaft made, which is the motivation here.

Seeing as no one replied yet ,
I'm not sure about a C4 , but on a C6 the tailshaft is the first thing in.
Which means everything has to come out , so it depends on your skills and tools.
There are lots of books available to help.
I've done it before , and I also paid someone else to do it . it depends on what you have to lose.

I just had my driveshaft shortened and the front yoke changed for less than $200. It's something to consider if the transmission is too hard or expensive to change.
