I have ran both the 435 and t-19 close ratio and the 435 is a 3 speed with a granny low non synchronized 1st
the T-19 is a close ratio 4 speed with first gear synchronized with a 4-1 ratio
I can only speak to those two :2cents:

Yes the T-19 close ratio is a ideal trans for a street truck that will still need to do a days work from time to time
its ratios are 4-1/2.4-1/1.4-1/1-1 add a ranger or other OD and its very close to the M5odr2's ratios

I agree about the T-19 having a close ratio (4.02:1 1st gear). In case the original poster doesn't realize it the T-19 was available with 3 different 1st gear ratios. They were 4.02:1, 5.11:1, or 6.32:1. So you could still have one with a "granny low" but it would also be synchronized. I would have to do some digging, but the if my memory is correct, the 4.02:1 was used with 1980's diesels and the 5.11:1 and 6:32:1 were used behind the gas engines.

The T-18 is very similar to the NP435 in that they both have a non-synchronized "granny low" 1st gear. There are some slight ratio differences between the T-18 and NP435. The Novak Conversions website has some good information about the different transmissions. Here is the link:

FYI- This combo is awesome for a street truck that never tows:

428FE, T19 with 4.02 1st gear, 3.00 ring and pinion, 31" tires.

My brother's setup that works pretty good is the 390/445FE stroker, T19 5.11 1st gear, 2.75 ring and pinion, 29.5" tires.
1969 F100 428 with T19, 3.00 9inch 31 spline w/ Detroit Trutrac, '74 frame swap successful!
