rear axle gear question

ok i have 3.54 D60 gearing what is the difference between the 3.54 and 4.10 gearing?

Well...3.54:1 is about three and a half turns of the pinion to one rotation of the axles and 4.10:1 is a hair over four turns of the pinion for one rotation of the axles.

which gearing would be better with a manual 3spd and a 390

It depends on what your plans are for the truck.
4.10 gears are stump puller gears; they will result in higher engine RPM's at freeway speed.

eventually when i get my truck put back together i want it to be able to go on the highway aswell as have fun int the dirt and woods

Tire size needs to be thought about in this 4.10's and 33's is similar final drive ratio as 3.55 and30's more or less without doing the math :2cents:

You're better off with the 3:54s unless you're doing some heavy towing.

the most towing i plan on doing is camping gear, maybe a boat, and eventually a new project after i get my truck restored

If you're going to tow a boat with a 3 speed then you'll need at least 4.10:1 gears as trying to take off up the boat ramp with your boat with 3.54:1 gearing will result in significantly more clutch wear. 3 speeds and towing are not really the best combination.
