C6 Extension Housing

How many of you with 2WD FE/C6's have an trans extension housing that looks like this:

I've been trying to find a shaft, housing and yoke to use on my 460 passenger car C6, but the one currently on the trans in my truck does not look like the one depicted in the illustration. :hmm:

that looks very similar to the one on my 68.

If it's the truck in your sig, it's because you have a SWB, thus a one-piece driveshaft, which will have a slip yoke. That diagram is for the transmission in a LWB truck with a two-piece driveshaft and bolt-on yoke.

My SWB has a one piece driveshaft with a bolt-on yoke. Maybe it's because mine is the F103 with the big 9 3/8, 31 spline with Flexomatic?

Mine has a slip-in type speedo cable that goes in on the driver side of the extension housing, not the threaded speedo cable. My housing is cast aluminum. No wonder I'm having trouble finding one :x
There was a part number that I noticed on my driveshaft the last time I had it out it read DOTA-4602-AE

i have seen dentsides with that same speedo cable end. and short tailshaft. i dont know if they were the exact same from what i saw. but its a starting point.

My truck is stock. Trans tag reads PGB AK6.
1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog / Transmission ID Chart / Section A70 / Page 3.

PGB-AK6 = 1972 F100/350 C6.

thats not what i meant. i meant replacement parts amy be more available from a dentside.

That cast iron two-piece tail housing is a very common assembly on early C6s. I have scrapped hundreds of them over the years.

There are actually two different ones. One like in the picture. And another identical except having a threaded boss on the side of the larger piece. Which are you looking for? I have the one with bosses. However it is VERY expensive (currently $390) because it is also used in some forklifts that used the C6. In the forklifts they seem to break for some reason although I would think that the C6 case would break long before that cast iron housing would.

The $390 one in the catalog is a cast iron, two-piece with 4 studs where the 2nd piece mounts. Mine is cast aluminum, with a mount boss, one-piece with a speedo hole on the drivers side and no 4 studs.

The one you show in the in this link (http://www.fordification.com/tech/images/c6_03.jpg) is cast iron and is what I assumed you were looking for. Apparently you are looking for ANOTHER aluminum one like you now have.

The short aluminum tail housing is relatively rare compared to the earlier cast iron version shown in that link. Since you are using it in a car, you can use any of the several different 7" housings as long as the housing has a speedo hole provision. All 7" housings are used with a 10-spline output and flange or yoke. You should not need a threaded boss when used in your car.

Let me explain what I'm doing. I can use the housing that I currently have in my truck (the nasty, dirty one pictured) but I don't want to. I'm swapping my 360/C6 for a 460/C6. The 460 trans that I have is out of a passenger car and has the long, slip-type extension housing and I want to swap out it with a short shaft and identical housing like the one that is on my truck. I don't want to disassemble my 360 trans to build the one going in behind the 460. I want to rebuild the car trans without having my truck disabled.
