400/C6 into a 68 F250

Post by Heirloom »

Hoping someone might be able to tell me which x/member I need to look for to properly mount a 400/C6 combo in my 68. I have the engine mounts, but not sure which x-member to go looking for.

Thanks!

I think all you need it the cross member from any auto. I had a 302 and a c4 and swapped in a 400 with a c6 used the same cross member from the 302. It fit in fine just need to drill the frame for the 2 holes. (1 in each side of the frame). Hope that helps.

When I did mine (400/c6) into a 72 f100 the tranny cross member didn't line up with the 2 holes in each side of the frame. So now I am wondering if the cross member is right or if I have to drill out the frame. I believe the engine mounts for the 351/400 is the same as the 302. Come on guys any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Pat. :fr:

You need the correct crossmember. C6 c4 or manual trans. They also only go in one way.

Just my opinion, if I was going to change an engine and tranny, a 351/400M would be Last choice due to low performance/horsepower. They have low compression and retarded valve timing due to emissions. They run like a 360fe. 352fe,390fe, or a 351Clevland would be worth the effort ! I pulled a 351m out of a '72F250, dropped a 352fe in and had better performance and milage ! The 352 had 70k more miles than the 351m.
Don't need re-stored,can,t wear the d*mn thing out !
