68 f100 360 3 speed manual -Headers

Post by grandpas68f100 »

I am in the middle of a pretty hefty restore going on at my local shop... I have them doing dual exhaust but want to switch out the manifolds for headers. What are a couple options for near direct bolt on as I don't want to have to do much modification if I don't have to. Any help is appreciated... as with most budget friendly is always a plus.

Hedman has always been easy-breezy for me.

FPA is real nice, but last set I did in a 67 took some grinding of the frame rail, minor but wouldn't have fit without it

When doing this also be mindful of how close the headers are to the starter I ran sanderson shorty on mine kinda expensive but wanted the ceramic coating to keep the heat down on the 390 and wanted them to last a long time :D

My '72 came from the previous owner with the headman header on its replacement 300 I6 engine. If I were doing it from scrap I would use EFI manifolds off a 80's-90's f150, no question. the starter is surrounded by heat, and there's a notch the PO put in the frame for clearance. the efi manifolds will give probably just as much flow, but less headaches.

All that exhaust was pointless on my truck too, it still had the 1bbl carb. I got a 500CFM edelbrock on my used Offey intake, now its a different animal. ditching the 1bbl carb was a night and day difference for my truck. if you havent already, upgrade your intake side when you increase the flow of your exhaust...
