360 normal oil pressure

Post by Ohiotinkerer »

Been hunting around the interwebs and can't seem to find a consistent answer for normal oil pressure on my 360 - I plumbed a gage in off the oil filter and am getting 50 psi at idle cold and 40 at full temp and both will jump about 10 psi if I run it up to around 2000 rpm. While I know that this is good I'm trying to get an idea of how far off new this is - the truck only has 81,500 miles on it - the motor has never been apart and when I changed the valve cover gaskets I couldn't believe how clean everything was so I'm sure the guy that owned it before took really good care of it............. :maybe:

Don't you hate it when you think you have a very simple question, and you can't find the answer anywhere? My 360 was rebuilt somewhere around 30k miles ago and it has an idle oil pressure of 60 PSI at full 190 temp. At 2,000 RPM, it goes up to 75 PSI. However, I am also running 15W-40 oil. What oil are you using?

Running Castrol 10W40 with Lucas break in additive to get enough zinc in the old girl - this is one of those questions I figured I would get 2 dozen different answers at least. I'm gonna get the original Ford service manuals just to have around and hoping that it's in there somewhere........ :?

I'm more curious than anything because I know I have great oil pressure for a 49 year old truck but was wondering how close to new it is.......

Above 10 psi at idle is good. 30 psi at speed is good.
