You've got my attention. Any links to the CL listing?

I'd think a 460 gasser would be a better fit vs. a V10. Less problems too. The tranny is interesting but there's not a lot of clearance under the cab floor.

I saw a couple of Triton V10s in the wrecking yard - both in vans - and wondered about that swap too. When I researched the gas consumption, it nixed that idea. 10mpg if you're lucky, and down in the sixes towing.

Yep - except an FE will drop straight into a bump. I'd rather spend the time and money on a diesel conversion.

That guy's full of sh.t, a 360 bell does not fit a 460 or V10 modular. I'm pretty sure you'd also need some flavor of controller for the shifting and TC lock up.

My 6bt / 47rh combo has been pretty painless so far but it was a bear to get it done.

I love my Triton V10! Would I attempt to put it into something like my old 67 F100 4X4? Not no, but HELL NO! And, no, I wouldn't put a Cummins in there, either!
Depending on my mood, I daily drive one of three pickups. The mentioned Bumpside 4X4, with 352/4 spd, a 93 F250 4X4 with an injected 460/5 spd ZF, or a 2004 F250 'Super Duty' with the V10/auto/4X4.
Of the three trucks, probably the 'best' all around vehicle is the 93. The most comfortable (especially important now that I'm 63, overweight, and with diabetes and joint problems) and easiest to drive is the 04 SD. (I should mention that I also drive a 98 Cherokee up in the timber on the two-tracks, or a K5 Blazer, or an 86 3/4 ton GMC with 454/4 spd/4X4...)
I've seen how guys that bitch about their V10's mileage drive their trucks, and immediately understand why! They WILL run like a scalded-ass ape, running up and over 5000 rpm regularly, and pushing way over 80 on the highway with a load. I drive mine just a mite more conservatively than that, and I can count on the SD returning 12-14 mpg at a steady 65 on the two lane state highways around here. (I have to drive 70 miles to get to an on-ramp of I-15!) If I flog on the thing like it was a red-headed step child, it WILL give me the same numbers that other guys get with theirs, but on a fixed retirement income, and the cost of fuel these days, I have to get the most bang for the buck that I can.
I'm contemplating what powertrain to put into my 67 this summer, and honestly, I'm looking for another EFI 460/5 speed! I hate diesels, after driving and working on, in, and around the smelly nasty things for 30 years, and all you youngsters are welcome to 'em!!! My 93 WILL burn those expensive Toyo's that I'm running on it, down to a nubbin', but seldom find a legitimate need to do so. It starts within one spin of the crank at -20F, as well as a hot start after towing. Gobs of torque, and will turn as tight as I've ever needed a vehicle to do, and these days, easier to find than an FE, less expensive to build and run, and a helluva lot easier to swap than the Triton of any flavor!

V-10's are awesome, but what will you do for a carburetor and intake manifold?

Blasphemy...

To add, dad's bone stock '03 F-250 with the 5.4 manages 13 mpg empty and I got just over 10 going after my XKR last week doing 330 miles of mostly interstate at 65 mph.

I would prob have to go EFI.... :/
I saw a 460 bored over .060 or .070 I think it was. Person wanted $3500 plus $750 for the c6 tranny.

If anything id like to rent a picker and buy a stand. Build an engine in my garage for my old truck

Class A can be pretty hard duty, almost as bad as marine. Really depends on your confidence level. EFI shouldn't be an issue if you can get the wiring and fuel system as well. Yard might play nice but from the ad I'd bet they torched it out and tossed the rest.

Doesn't hurt to call them and ask.
