Hi, all. I have a 1967 F250, in which a P.O. replaced the original engine/trans with a 400M/c6 out of a 77 Lincoln. I am thinking of replacing the engine with a re-manufactured or crate engine, as opposed to rebuilding/upgrading the 400M 2v , due to parts availability issues(?).
this model is a camper special, with power steering, but no brake assist (which I'd like to add).
What would be a good choice for relative ease of swap out, and improved power & reliability. I am not going to hot rod it, just use it as the work horse is was designed to be, just updated slightly. I plan to stay with the C6, unless there is a better idea for that, also.
I am trying to avoid clearance issues with the exhaust /steering /etc. I may use a LMC kit to lower the front end, but not yet decided.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance, folks!

If Its a clean install , I'd replace it with a 400 , otherwise a 429/460 will bolt up to the tranny.
Beware of the the torque converter snout can be different on older big blocks

Thanks for the reply. Not sure what you mean by clean install, but I don't see any cutting or bending done to get the 400 in there. Can't tell yet for sure, but the motor mounts look original.
Is it hard/expensive to get replacement or upgrade parts for the 400M? I know they share some like parts with the early 351's , bu don't want to wind up with an unsupportable motor in use. As a minimum, if I were to keep the 400, I'd want to replace the intake and carb with either a 4V or a simple F.I. setup. I do love the Duraspark for reliability and simplicity.

Re: 67 F250 engine choices
I've never had a anything but a stock 400 , but there are some forums I've read that said
with a cam and intake , and porting the heads they're a real powerhouse, plus lighter than a big block.
I like the 429s but I swapped a 400 into my plow truck because I wouldn't have to change the mounts ,the oil pan,
the exhaust and the accessory drive brackets.
