Fan belts? Cut 'em off. They're cheap and probably need replacing anyway. Take the old one's with you when you get new one's just in case the auto parts guy's an idiot. Otherwise, depending on your option equipment, just loosen the mounting bolts and adjustment bracket bolts. Everything is adjustable so loosening the bolts will allow you to take the tension off and just slide them off the pulleys. If you have a radiator fan shroud, you'll have to work them around the fan to get them out but no need to take anything off.

I always prefer the method Randy prescribed of loosening the bolts. You are going to have to loosen them anyway to reinstall the belts. And a lot of parts jockeys these days dont have a clue how properly size a cut belt with a belt gauge. You also want to use some common sense. Some of the accesories arent just going to drop off the belt when you loosen them. They may take some persuasive force to move in the desired direction. Dont go to hammering and prying until you triple check that all the bolts are loose. If you are reinstalling some prying to get correct belt tension will be required in some cases.....dont go all gorilla on that. On reinstall be sure to lock down the adjustment bolts first and the pivot bolts last.

Thank you all very much, I just bought a 69 Ford f100 and haven't wrenched for a very long time and I was pretty sure I could just loosen adjust then remove but wanted to make sure.

Why? I wouldn't have thought the order made any difference, but then I've not changed a belt ... yet.

Thats just my personal preference and something I was taught decades ago both in high school auto shop and In the Army when I was learning to be an M1 tank mechanic. The idea is if you are adjusting say a V belt type driven alternator by yourself you need two different tools one in each hand.
A pry bar to apply tension and a wrench to seat a bolt. You can do it either way. But the adjusting bolt is usually easier to get to. I myself prefer to set the tension and have both hands free to deal with the pivot bolt which is often harder to get to and requires somewhat more torque applied. A socket...ratchet and often an extension are much easier to handle with two hands.
