360 fe to 300 six questions

Post by rabbithunter2005 »

I'm looking to swap a 300 six into my 67 highboy I'm tired of getting only 8mpg lol. So I know I need obviously an engine and I'm thinking on putting a zf5 speed in it as well. Will I need to shorten or lengthen my drive shaft will I need to move the frame pads forward or back and is there anything else I Need to know. Anyone that has any wiring tips for adding efi I would appreciate it cause I'm considering it if it's worth it. Thanks

The engine perches will need to move to the forward set of holes (but they are the same for the I6 and FEs)...that's all I can tell you. :D

Don't know about the ZF5, but with the C6, you can get a long-length or short-length output shaft, and long or short shaft housing. But you have to get into the tranny to swap shafts.

The ZF is longer than the NP-435 and the 2x4 has a 1350 yoke it is also taller at the area around the bellhousing and the trans cross member will need to be moved back as well. In my '68 with the 4BT it is real tight at the cross member near the shackles for the front springs. My Motor is out but the trans is still in I'll get pics tomorrow

So didn't have to look far for a 300 engine a old friend of mine that I haven't talked to in forever has one in a 77 f100 with 102kmiles on it. I went up to his place and saw it running and it's purring like a kitten. 350 is what he is charging me for it but I'm getting everything including the radiator and the clutch bracket (bracket looks different than mine so I asked for it as part of the deal). so after Christmas I'll be starting the swap hopefully gonna do engine first and then I'll think about the 5 speed later. Its too bad it just finally got cold here in pa now so looks like I'll be doing another below freezing engine swap soon.

I believe I would wait 3 months and let it start warming up outside before swapping out a engine. But maybe I'm old and hate the cold

I'm gonna be 30 here soon technically I'm still young when I was 18 years old it was nothing to see me out in 20 degree weather doing an engine job. My neighbors all used to call me crazy lol. Now I'm 12 years older and 12 years more out of shape lol.

You can do it. I'll be 45 on Friday and recently swapped the 5.8L (351W) in my '95 F150 4WD back in February...in my driveway. Followed then by all new ball joints, tie rods, bearings, brakes, and finally a 4" lift and new 33s.

I'm gonna give it hell just gotta get thru christmas here then after that I can buy the engine hopefully this will be my last cold weather swap but unfortunately I can't ever leave nothing alone. I was never an inline 6 fan I blew 2 up in the span of a month when I was young but I was also stupid back then now I'm just looking for a low end motor I don't need nothing that turns 6k my 69 f100 does that when I go racing I just think it's cool that my only 2 vehicles are from back in the late 60's when a truck was designed to be used like a truck not with all the fancy stuff that today's vehicles have.
